Apologies in advance if I'm asking a dumb question, but I've tried looking
just about everywhere else I can think of...
I'm trying to get rtorrent to work for me, but have come across what to me
looks like a weird problem...I don't know if it's a bug or not, but perhaps
some kind soul can help?
I've managed to install libtorrent 0.11.4 and rtorrent 0.7.4 on my debian
system from source, and all appears to be well... apart from the fact that
none of the torrent files I feed it ever connect to any peers. If I put
"handshake_log = yes" in an rtorrent.rc file, I can see in the log screen
that it is trying to connect to all kinds of peers, but in all cases I am
getting either "handshake failed: network error" or "handshake failed: not
bittorrent protocol". The tracker list confirms that rtorrent isn't having
any problems talking to the trackers (which is consistent with all the peers
it's trying to contact), but the peer list remains resolutely empty. I don't
think it's an rtorrent.rc configuration issue, because I get the same
behaviour even if I start rtorrent without one...
The real puzzler is that if I install libtorrent9 (0.10.4) and rtorrent
(0.6.4) via apt-get, everything works fine. So could the encryption function
be the culprit?
I really hope someone can help, as of course I would rather be able to run
the latest version of this great little prog!
Thank you...
