Perhaps, but is it up to a user application to prevent this? With the
same logic, wget, firefox, tar, well any program that create files
without knowing in advance how big they are going to be should have
this limit. At least I have once filled up a partition once by
accidentally untarring the linux kernel source...

Wouldn't it be nicer to have this setting as a softcoded configuration
default instead?
